About the Event
Parking: Parking will be on the shoulder of Edgar Street. Carpooling is encouraged.Â
Orientation: Orientation will begin with a prayer and welcome cirlce. If you are not comfortable participating in the prayer, please join in after for our welcome and safety information. Volunteers will be divided into groups and paired with a leader.
Tools & Equipment: If you have them, feel free to bring a hard hat, safety glasses, work gloves and basic hand tools, like a hammer, utility knife, speed square, tape measure, pencil, etc. We will have plenty available if you do not have them.Â
Attire: Dress for the weather and wear layers that you can add/remove. Please be sure to wear modest, comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting dirty. Long pants are recommended to minimize splinters and scrapes, but shorts are acceptable. Sturdy, thick soled shoes that cover your entire foot are required, such as work boots, hiking boots, or athletic shoes.
Valuables: There is no safe place to store personal belongings. Please leave valuables at home or locked in your car.Â
Food & Drinks: A water cooler with single-use paper cups will be available. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a water bottle! Please be sure that is have a removable mouthpiece if you would like to refill from our water station. We will provide a variety of packaged snacks for a break around 10 AM. You are welcome to bring your own snacks.Â
Weather: Beaches Habitat builds rain or shine. If it looks like conditions will be too dangerous to work safely on site, we will contact the group leader as well as registered volunteers by phone and/or email as soon as possible to notify them of changes to the schedule.Â
COVID-19: We ask all volunteers to monitor their health prior to volunteering and consider rescheduling if experiencing symptoms of illness or after exposure to a confirmed case of COVID-19. A mask or other face covering is recommended while volunteering.
